Czeck Edge Standard Bird Cage Awls feature large, palm friendly knobs with a lower finger perch that allows a tremendous amount of force to be applied comfortably for boring or marking in wood. The square cross section of the blade, sharpened edges and shallow 10 degree pyramid point allow them to sever delicate wood fibers without splitting thin stock.
The blade follows the traditional design in essence, being a bit larger at 1/4 wide. The 1/4" quare blade permits the cutting edges to be 13/16" long. This is a significantly longer cutting edge than 1/4" round stock is capable of at the same 10 degree pyramid grind. They are made of A2 tool steel hardened to RC 59 - 60 in an aircraft certified facility and precision ground and polished.
Turned from Bolivian Rosewood, the knob is 1 3/8" wide and 3 1/4" long with a 5/8" satin polished bronze ferrule. The shaft is 3 1/2" long, the overall length of the Standard model Bird Cage cage awl is 7".
These tools are in stock and generally ship the next business day.
